Casio Men's G-Shock Atomic Multi-Band Watch #GW800-1AV Review

Casio Men's G-Shock Atomic Multi-Band Watch #GW800-1AVThis watch does exactly what I want it to, tell me the exact time no matter where I am in the world. It is supposed to pick up the time signal in Europe, England, Japan, and America, but I have only tested the first two so far and it works fine.It features multiple (30 I think) time zones, including some +30 minute zones. There is no GMT zone, but I turned daylight saving time off for LISBON and use that in place of GMT.It has 5 alarms, which is 3 or 4 more than I can use, but nice to know they're there if I need them.Countdown timer only goes up to 59:59, I'd like to have one that counts longer than one hour.

As for the solar power and legendary G-shock toughness, only time will tell.

When I got this watch, it came on within a second of being exposed to light and all I had to do was set the time zone and I was ready to go with the exact and correct time.So far I'm very pleased with it and consider it essential travel gear.

Update: After having worn this for a few months, I'm still very happy with it.One thing I noticed was that outside the range of the atomic clock signal, it lost about 5 seconds a month.

Casio Men's Waveceptor Solar Atomic Silver-Tone Watch #WV300DA-7AC Review

Casio Men's Waveceptor Solar Atomic Silver-Tone Watch #WV300DA-7ACI bought this watch in Akihabara in 2005 when it was not available over here. What attracted me were the large clear numbers. These days, I let it set itself to the atomic clock at NIST in Colorado over night about once a month. It starts searching about midnight and is usually synched about 5 minutes later. Nothing else has been needed. The bans fits and has held up well. The battery still shows "H" after 3 years. I presume this is because the solar cell powers it most of the time. Though I hardly ever use the light. The crystal is hardy, as well. Couple of scratches around the edges. I do take it off before heavy work in the yard, but that's about it. One problem I had was the instructions were in Kanji! My Kanji is not so good. Better hold on to the instructions because there are a lot of functions and not many buttons. The dual time zone feature is very helpful when flying. No GPS, compass, or 1,000-name memory. It is just a solid time piece.

Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch #G2310-1V Review

Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Solar Powered Digital Sports Watch #G2310-1VThis watch is a great little watch -

Time set from front panel only - no ability to set from WWV.

I have not had to reset it in the months I have owned it. It is yet to be a full second off - so far the watch has not slipped as far in time as my watch setting error.

12 hour or 24 hour time.

Default state - displays year, month, day, day of week, and status of rechargable battery.

World time state - displays the time in one of 31 time zones, including GMT. Each zone can be controlled for DST.

Data - holds a short alphameric pointer and a bt of data that uses the year, month, day, hour, minute, second - I use it for Ham call signs. Holds 30 items. Suitable for phone numbers, for example.

Alarm screen - the watch will remember five different alarms by day, month year, hour, minute, sec. It will alarm the same time and day every year or the same day every month or the same time every day - or just once, at a particular year, month, day, hour, minute, and second. There is a sixth screen where you set the hourly chime on or off.

Stopwatch screen: The stopwatch does splits and final time. It also does a "countdown" where it beeps three times and then a "go beep", optionally, if you are timing someone in something and they want an honest and accurate start.

Timer screen: The timer will do countdowns - either a single time or it will automatically repeat.

The face is a solar cell. It automatically recharges the battery. The watch can be put to sleep by holding adjust and mode - you won't get alarms or beeps in that mode, nor will you get a display - but the watch will keep time for much longer.

The backlight really works - in the old days, backlights on LCDs were miserable and then some of the watchmakers used tritium radioactive elements that were nicely lit but which you can't get anymore. Then there were some attempts at better pushbutton backlights - this is about the best I've seen. It is clear and you really can see the watch using it.

It works in one of two modes. One mode is that the watch backlight only engages when you push the button on the face - that's right, the easy to reach silver button on the front center of the watch lights it up.

The other way is to use the automatic feature - If you wear your watch on the outside of your left wrist, then IF it is not too bright and as you look at the watch the way most people do, by tilting your wrist toward you, the watch automatically lights up. This is essentially automatic - you look at your watch and it is lit up. This function is selectable - You might want to make it manual to save battery. I find it is too convenient to do without.

Despite the wonderful pressure ratings, unless you are very small, this watch is not suitable as a dive watch. The band won;t fit over a wet or dry suit. If you are doing warm water wimp diving in a skin or a shortie, you can use it - if you need to put it over a wet suit or a dry suit, the band is simply way too short. I know of no source for a band extender. Neither do the people at Casio. For short duration use, a wire tie or two will probably work.

What 20 bar rating means to me is that I could take it diving. Or, I could get it wet and not worry, even if the water is coming out of a hose with some force. The band means that I can't wear it where I need it - on the outside of my wetsuit or drysuit.

Casio General Men's Watches Data Bank CA-56-1UW - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Data Bank CA-56-1UW - WWI was a little disappointed, because I didn't feel the picture accurately depicted that the band on this watch is black! It's not a shadow. I'll have to keep hoping that someday they will bring this watch out in a softer color for women. Great watch though, other than that.

Casio Men's Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Green Watch #PAW1300-3V Review

Casio Men's Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Green Watch #PAW1300-3VI have owned two Casio G-shock watches over a span exceeding a decade.I always liked the G-shock, but alas the viewing light recently stopped working and it was time to try something with a few more features. After quite a bit of searching I settled on the Pathfinder (model PAW 1300 - 3v) and I believe I made the correct personal choice.

Before actually receiving the watch from Amazon I was definitely concerned about the overall size of this watch. From my research I was half afraid I would end up with a geeky watch the size of a dinner plate on my wrist. Moreover, I don't have a big wrist to begin with so this was a real concern.I was pleasantly surprised that although slightly larger in circumference than a standard watch, this watch was not nearly as large as I had imagined. In fact, the difference between this model (1300) and the previous model (1200) is the size. The 1200 is nearly identical in features but is quite a bit thicker than the newer 1300 model. This Pathfinder sits nicely on my wrist and does not look unusual.

Practically speaking, this watch has a lot of nice features that I like, such as the compass, the automatic display light, atomic synchronization, and the solar power to note a few. While I would easily purchase this watch again, I might consider the model with the metal band.I say this because somehow with the price of this watch I was expecting it to have a bit more panache to it, if that makes any sense. This watch is fairly light weight and somehow looks characteristically similar to a lot of other pedestrian plastic-band watches out there. That may be fine for people who want just a plainish looking watch, but somehow the metal band version might look a bit nicer, although perhaps not as ruggedly practical.

I haven't had this watch long enough to judge its overall durability, but if my former G-shock watches are any indication, this Pathfinder should hold up just fine.
